Improv Comedy / Workshops

NCCAF offers 'Saturday workshops' for festival participants, FREE Improv 101 Drop-In with a DSI Instructor and Master Class workshops for both the public and visiting artists.

ERIC HUNICUTT - Viewpoints & Improvisation for the Actor

Listen, react, respond... The Actor's job is to do all of these... truthfully, and in the process, to remain present, in the moment, whether on camera or onstage - to be aware and available. The question is: HOW? This workshop covers the vocabulary and practice of Viewpoints (for more info on The Viewpoints as taught by The Steppenwolf, click here) and incorporates improvisation to give actors tools applicable in all aspects of their craft: auditions, rehearsals, live theatre, and on-camera work. It's all about process, about discovery, about finding out how each artist works.

WHEN: 2- Day Intensive, Wednesday 2/17 & Thursday 2/18, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
COST: ONLY $125 / $95 for students and NCCAF 'Saturday workshop' participants
REGISTER: Login and register online.

JILL BERNARD - Fireball Theory

This workshop presents Jill Bernard's Fireball Theory and offers exercises to help you improvise faster and harder than you can judge yourself. You will learn to metaphorically hit the scene running and outrun the explosion of self-loathing and doubt like an action movie hero outruns a fireball thus defying the laws of physics. Please wear closed toe shoes to this workshop.

WHEN: Friday 2/19, 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
COST: $50 / $40 for NCCAF 'Saturday workshop' participants
REGISTER: Login and register online.

JILL BERNARD - Truth & Beauty

In this workshop, Jill Bernard will take you through a series of exercises that inject your work with a little bit of truth and beauty. Having the ability to create improv that is honest and vulnerable adds another layer to your work, a little bit of cake underneath your frosting to take your work from light entertainment to something with resonance. Please wear closed toe shoes to this workshop.

WHEN: Friday 2/19, 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm
COST: $50 / $40 for NCCAF 'Saturday workshop' participants
REGISTER: Login and register online.

Saturday Workshops: Details sent to your Team

Festival Acts had the option to register as Workshop Participants which included two (2) Saturday workshops. Topics of the workshops vary and are up to our guest instructors (detailed list released soon). Location: UNC Chapel Hill Campus, Saturday Feb 20th, 11:00 am - 1:30 pm and 3:00pm - 5:00pm
